Gynecomastia is the condition of breast enlargement in men. It is relatively common during puberty and often disappears with time. If it occurs before puberty or as an adult, it should be investigated. Some adult causes include recreational drug use, certain prescription drugs, anabolic steroids, etc. We recommend that you see your family physician to rule out any underlying cause of the breast enlargement before seeking surgical correction. In general, surgery is possible when the gynecomastia has been present for 1 year and no underlying cause has been detected.<\/p>\n

Operative procedures for gynecomastia generally require liposuction. We may also need to make an incision along the lower edge of the areola in order to remove excess glandular tissue.<\/p>\n

Risks of surgery for gynecomastia include scarring, infection, bleeding, an incomplete correction, an irregular chest contour, loss of nipple sensation, etc. We will discuss the risks with you during your consultation. We will also show you before and after photographs.<\/p>\n
