FAQ
Incognito Medispa Clinique
What is the Incognito reassurance plan?
At MediSpa laser Incognito we want YOU to be pleased with YOUR result. Dr. Thompson and Dr. Germain realize that not everyone is ready, or a candidate, for cosmetic surgery. To maximize your investment in any non-invasive treatment, they will credit a percentage of your investment towards an operation, when and if you decide to have a procedure in the same body region. This reassurance plan has no expiry date! Please contact us for more details!
What is the difference between Thermage®, UltraShape® and SkinTyte®?
We use Thermage® and SkinTyte™ technology to firm and tighten your skin. Thermage® uses radiofrequency (RF) energy which penetrates deep into the skin (dermis) and subcutaneous tissue to stimulate collagen production. It gives a superior result and requires one single treatment.
SkinTyte™ technology uses laser light energy (infrared) which acts more superficially on the skin than Thermage®.
UltraShape® version 3 is the latest technology in fat reduction. Incognito is the second clinic in Canada and the first in the National Capital region to offer this platform. UltraShape® destroys fat cells—like having liposuction but without the surgery. The version 3 platform includes a radiofrequency module to tighten the skin, similar to Thermage®. Because of this, a series of treatments are often necessary but you will still see a difference!
Why the name Incognito?
“Incognito” reflects our professional philosophy that people want to be treated in a discrete, confidential, personalized manner. Our intimate format is reassuring, and completely opposite to that of large, intimidating centres. Incognito…It’s OUR little secret!
Are the treatments painful?
This is a very good question! The amount of discomfort depends on the treatment type.
Massage therapy and facials are relaxing and therefore are not painful. For some laser treatments, we may apply a topical anaesthetic to the area to be treated. We also have a Zimmer, a machine which blows a jet of glacial air, which effectively reduces any pain during a specific session. Some treatments require you to feel warmth or some mild discomfort. This is to let us know that the treatment is actually working.
We are thrilled to be the first centre in the Outaouais region to have the latest in Thermage® technology. The Thermage CPT hand-piece is approved by the FDA in the United States. We are waiting on Health Canada approval. Following this, we will be able to offer you the most comfort in Thermage treatments. Until then we are pleased to offer you the traditional format.
What can I anticipate during my visit to MediSpa laser Incognito?
At MediSpa laser Incognito, you will be warmly greeted by our highly trained staff. If it is your first visit, you will be required to complete a short medical questionnaire. You will meet either Dr. Thompson or Dr. Germain, or one of our highly trained aesthetic technicians, depending on which treatment you have selected.
It is our aim that your visit be positive, informative, pleasant and reassuring. We look forward to seeing you!
How long does it take to recover after a treatment?
Recovery time depends on what treatment you choose!
There is no down time after Thermage or UltraShape. You may have a mild amount of swelling which is imperceptible to others.
After filler injections, you may have some mild redness or swelling. Swelling is much more common in the lips. Often after Botox®, there is no evidence of the injection however you can have some mild bruising.
Laser resurfacing often requires 3 to 7 days recovery time, and sometimes more, depending on the depth of your treatment.
We will explain the recovery time of your treatment in much greater detail during your consultation.
How often do I need to repeat my injections?
How often you repeat injections depends on the type of injection and how your body breaks down the product.
In general, Botox® should be repeated at a minimum of twice a year and ideally every 4 months. Remember that the goal of botulinum toxin is to suppress the action of those muscles which cause undesirable wrinkles. One treatment will work but you will need regular injections to maintain the effect long term. We can adjust the dose and plan your next visit during each appointment.
Fillers tend to last between 6 and 12 months in the lips and between 12 and 18 months in deeper areas (e.g. cheekbones). It is easier to maintain the desired effect if we re-inject before the product is totally absorbed by your system. If not, we start back at the beginning each time!
What are your hours of operation?
We are open during the day, between 8:00 and 16:00 Monday to Friday. We offer evening hours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please contact us for an appointment!
Will I be able to drive home after my appointment?
After most of the treatment, you will be able to drive home. After certain laser treatments or operations, you will need someone else to do the driving. We will let you know in advance whether or not you should bring someone with you. After all, these are medical grade treatments!
Which methods of payment do you accept?
We accept Visa, Interac, Mastercard, American Express, certified cheques or bank drafts. Financing is available through Medicard. We do not accept cash for surgical payments.
What can I anticipate during my visit to the Gatineau Cosmetic Surgery Clinique?
At the Gatineau Cosmetic Surgery Clinique, you will be warmly greeted by our highly trained staff. If it is your first visit, you will be required to complete a short medical questionnaire. We endeavour to limit your time in the waiting room knowing that time is important to everyone.
During your consultation, we will discuss the reasons for your visit, your goals and your medical history. We will conduct a directed physical examination. We will then discuss the treatment options at length and show you before and after photographs. We will give you written information about the procedures.
We welcome your questions at any time during the interview. It is important to us that you feel that all your concerns have been addressed. We typically arrange a second visit to consolidate all information obtained during the consultation, and to answer any further questions.
Minor treatments such as injections may be performed during the initial visit.
We will also offer you a consultation with a qualified aesthetician. This meeting will likely occur on a separate day. The aesthetician will examine and evaluate your skin. If you wish, she will recommend appropriate skin treatments and daily skin care dependent on your skin type and medical history.
It is our aim that your visit be positive, informative, pleasant and reassuring.
Can more than one operation be performed at the same time?
We can combine operation depending on your overall health and the procedures you wish to combine. Dr. Thompson and Dr. Germain are concerned first and foremost with your safety. They will not perform any prolonged, combined operations that would place your health at risk.
Having said this, it is common to combine certain operations such as a breast procedure (augmentation, reduction) and an abdominoplasty or liposuction. A facelift may be performed in combination with a blepharoplasty (eyelid procedure) or forehead lift.
We do recognize that in appropriate circumstances, a combination operation gives a more dramatic result with a single recovery period. We will be happy to discuss this with you during your consultation.
Should I stop smoking before my operation?
Clinical studies show that patients who stop smoking before an operation have fewer healing and anaesthetic complications. It is particularly important to stop smoking before procedures such as an abdominoplasty or breast reduction where there is a significant amount of surgical dissection. Ideally we would prefer that you stop smoking 6 weeks before your procedure. We will discuss this with you during your consultation.
Should I lose weight before my operation?
If your weight is stable, you may not need to lose weight. If you are overweight, you may not be a suitable candidate for certain operations. For most people, a well-controlled weight loss will allow us to remove excess skin and obtain better results. There are many possibilities and we invite you to discuss this with us in person.
I have had children and my body is not like it used to be… what can you do about it?
Pregnancy wrecks havoc with the female body!
Your breasts and abdomen are stretched and after delivery, rarely return completely to their pre-pregnancy state. Once you have completed your family, you may be an excellent candidate for cosmetic surgery. A breast lift/reduction or augmentation, combined with a “tummy-tuck” is a popular choice. There is only one recovery period. We look forward to discussing the options with you.
Which type of breast implants do you use?
At the Gatineau Cosmetic Surgery Clinique we use saline or cohesive silicone gel breast implants. During your consultation, we will discuss with you the risks and benefits of each type. You will have a chance to feel the different implants and try out various sizes to help you make the best choice.
Is there a risk involved with injections?
There is always a risk involved with any procedure. On the other hand, the techniques and the products we use at the Gatineau Cosmetic Surgery Clinique have been chosen because of their negligible risk of complications. Because these products are temporary, we are able to tailor the treatments according to your preference in the short and long-term.
Are injections painful?
The possibility of pain with injections depends on which products are used and where they are injected. We prefer to use local anaesthesia during filler treatments of the lips to ensure your comfort. Local anaesthesia is superior to topical agents. Injections of botulinum toxin (BOTOX®) may be mildly uncomfortable. We attempt to minimize any discomfort by using high quality, very small calibre needles.
